Lake Duminagat

 Travel is starting to feel like more of a reality. We can't go back to exploring the way we used to, we need to go forward. Visiting local destinations is more doable nowadays.

Lake Duminagat is a creter lake located in Mt. Malindang Park, which is one of the protected areas in the Philippines. Two communities are adjacent to it Barangay Lake Duminagat, of which it is a part, and Barangay Gandawan, which are both included in the Municipality of Don Victoriano, Misamis Occidental.

Lake Duminagat hold a central place in the spirit life of the Subanon people, who look on the lake as sacred and a source of healing water. Although the Subanons has their own traditional customs and practices, they had become enculturated by the influence of Visaya and Western cultures, brought about by Visaya settler / businessmen and mass media.

Lake Duminagat was a small lake, with an area of 8. 04 ha, maximum depth of 20. 95 m, water volume of 933.000 cu m, mean depth of 11.6 m, shoreline length of 1060 m, and shoreline development of 1.054. The lake was supported a high diversity of indigenous people. Although the area had an attractive cool atmosphere, because of a high elevations ( from 1240 to 1560 meters above the sea level). Does Lake Duminagat is safe? Did Lake Duminagat is clean? 

The residents considered the Lake as the dwelling place of spirit and did not encourage fishing in the lake. It was not only the subanen but also the outsiders who considered the lake as a source of healing water and to have the capacity to wash away the sins. The occurrence of many visitors to the Lake, especially during the Holy Week, because they renewed their magical objects (anting-anting) every Holy Week.

I asked my friends, to visit our beautiful Lake Duminagat, so that they can see or explore the true beauty of Lake. But before we go to Lake Duminagat all we need is to cooperate our local tourism or to our Mdrrmo, so that they will be guide to us. And also if we already arrived at Lake Duminagat first things is to  (log-book) so that they will know that you are from Zamboanga City or Misamis Occidental. After that you need to careful the area, because if you were going to make a noise you will be in danger, because the heavy cloud will be going down the lake, so that you need to be careful on what you are going through. And don't throw your garbage anywhere, so that we can help our mother nature. But for now own Lake Duminagat is temporary closed, because of this pandemic that we face right now. 

Lake Duminagat is the most scenics lakes in the Philippines.

Let's visit the Beaty of Lake Duminagat in Municipality of Don Victoriano, Misamis Occidental.
